There are many parts of Blair's travels that I've decided to portray in snippets. This takes place before Blair accepted his destiny of being bonded to a Sentinel.

THE ALLEY

Java Head

Blair huddled against the brick wall in the shadow-shrouded alley. Shaking, he clutched at the bricks with his dirty finger tips. He blinked back panicky tears and fought to calm his ragged breathing.

Close. So close. Calm down, it's over. Over. Safe.

Safe?

Never. Never be safe. Never be over. Dammit. Hate you. Hate you all.

He hated his world for doing this to him. For making him be grateful for a stinking, dark and dangerous alley as his refuge.

He pounded at the bricks with the soft skin of his fist.

Stop it. Just shut up! Pull yourself together, stupid. Someone will see you!

Gotta get out of here. Not safe even in the shadows.

Turning around, he furtively glanced around the alley. No one here. Carefully, he opened his mind and reached out. He felt the leftover tendrils of the Sentinel's energy force that he'd felt on the street.

Remembering, he clenched his fists, the muscles spasming as panic hit him again.

Stop it!

Forcing himself to calm down and think rationally, his mind was quiet again.

The Sentinel was moving on, further away. Pulling himself together, Blair turned and ran, half-stumbling down the alley, away from the pull of the Sentinel.
